For the past 5 days, 2 Carolina Wrens have been feverishly working on their nest in a fish basket on our front porch, and by Tuesday, tempers were wearing a bit thin.
Finally, the poor wren gave up, dropping the twig over the edge.
Which just goes to show, stress isn't limited to rush hour in the big cities. It can sneak up on us out here in the country, too.

Gorgeous photos!! The basket looks wonderful and the birds tell a good story too.
The nesting continues in the fishing basket! So little wren couldn't make out how to get that large twig in the opening and new ideas of twisting its head to allow for this were not forthcoming.
Sometimes, we can't see how to do things in life because we are too close to them! A little lateral thinking can do wonders!
Awesome, never thought these little birds could have stress. They sure love that basket.
Oh I know the feeling. Sweepy get stressed out running after his tail as a puppy and now as a senior dog he gets stressed out running after me! Poor thing.
Awww...poor little guy....i feel for him.
awww, the poor lil thing... they'll persevere! =)
Poor thing! :) Have to admire the determination.
Great captures! I'm loving your chronicling of the wren couple!
Oh, poor thing. Stunning photos, btw! :)
Love those photos! Did you see the study on crows? They were able to problem solve things like this AND use sticks as tool. Birds ae amazing!
How frustrating for the poor little thing...lovely shots.
Poor wrens!!! Life can be so stressful..y'know?? Love the images!
That is so cute (for me that is), I'm sure the poor little wren was already stressed out trying to build his family home, that long twig was the last straw, for sure.
i've always related well

I can see one of those speech-bubbles with:
"Now what"
They're blaming it on you and are telling you to cut a bigger hole.
