There's a new resident in our yard as of a little over a week ago,
and every morning before the whip-poor-will stops singing,
from his perch outside our window,
he wags his tail and sings out his name,
"Phoebe, Phoebe, Phoebe".
He has also taken to battling his reflection in the window,
flying up and down the glass and pecking at his imaginary foe.
We've seen this behavior in other bird species--
cardinals, red-winged blackbirds, and last year,
even a wild turkey,
but this is the first time we've seen a Phoebe so obsessed.
I don't know how to speak Phoebe,
but if I did, I'd have one thing to say to this little guy:
GET A LIFE!

Wonderful wonderful bird captures! You even caught a certain little look in his eye on that first shot! I love it! Beautiful composition.
I like the balancing act in the second shot!
I guess those little birds are sometimes like humans... do we not battle sometimes with our imaginary enemies?! LOL!
I wonder if battling the reflection is an indication that he thinks it's another male who is trying to claim the territory?
What a wonderful bird, so beautiful. Great feather details. :)
Happy spring and Easter to you and yours.
Great capture of this adorable little bird!
What a glorious portrait of a delightful species.
Just tapping to say 'hello' .. lol.
Beautiful photo and notes. I'm really enjoying your posts.
Wonderful... my post to WBW last week was a little video of a Blue Tit on my door handle... he has been tapping on the glass this week fighting his reflection?
Your images are superb esp. the first one.
I hope the phoebe finds a new hobby soon, before it hurts itself battling your window.
Beautiful captures!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Breathtaking photography!
Such a lovely bird! Wonderful catured! :)
Such a lovely little bird. Great capture.
Well, he gave you a perfectly posed portrait in that first shot :)
Excellent photo!!!
Beautiful picture and great story.
Lovely photos of the obsessed Phoebe Linda. You might try "muddying up" the window with a bar of soap for awhile so the bird can't see its reflection. It's usually a male thinking another male is in his territory.
Lovely shots of the Phoebe. I like that their sound is their own name. It is one of the birds I can tell right away by hearing their sounds.
Haha, Connie!
But hey I do bird-speak, worm-speak, cat-speak and of course dog-speak.
I guess I need to get a life ;-)
That first photo is absolutely perfect!
Great photos and a very cute little bird.
Wonderful shots of the Phoebe, I think I may of seen one today and did not know what it was. Your post is right on time for me!
That first photo is just gorgeous, Connie! Great shot!

The luminosity in the first picture is unbelievable.
So a Phoebe is a bird? I mistook it for a wren.
Nice picture - I suppose that the bird is doing what it needs to do!
We just don’t understand why it needs to do it.

Connie, both of these are wonderful, but the first one here is pure perfection!
