Woodpeckers are always a welcome sight around here.
At first light, this yellow-shafted flicker visited the birdbath...
and drank its fill.
From a nearby tree,
the diminutive downy woodpecker looked up from its perch...
and flew off into the blue.

Great photo of the flicker and the woodpecker on the tree.
Fantastic images of your woodpecker... I had my first on the garden feeders a few weeks ago but didn't have the camera to hand.
They're so hard for me to capture. I heard two calling from different trees on Sunday, but as soon as I got close enough to take a picture, they flew off or hid.
The woodpecker shots are beautiful, Connie. That first shot shows the markings of the feathers so well and the movement on the water makes the scene come alive. I also love the last capture with the wing span as the bird flies off the tree-trunk!

Thank you so very much for your kind comments re...our daughter Brittany. She got to return home last evening following 16 days in 2 hospital's 5 major infections, and 2 surgeries. We are thankful and hopeful now.
