Window Wars

There's a new resident in our yard as of a little over a week ago,
and every morning before the whip-poor-will stops singing,
from his perch outside our window,
he wags his tail and sings out his name,
"Phoebe, Phoebe, Phoebe".

He has also taken to battling his reflection in the window,
flying up and down the glass and pecking at his imaginary foe.

We've seen this behavior in other bird species--
cardinals, red-winged blackbirds, and last year,
even a wild turkey,
but this is the first time we've seen a Phoebe so obsessed.

I don't know how to speak Phoebe,
but if I did, I'd have one thing to say to this little guy:

GET A LIFE!
