Name Calling

Isn't it nice when someone knows your name?

Occasionally, when Don is entering his office, a friend will pull up,
power down the car window, and call out his name.
The other day, as he arrived at work, he heard a voice he didn't recognize calling,
"Don, Don!".  It sounded like someone in distress.
Don looked around the parking lot quickly, but didn't see anyone,
until, glancing at a nearby fence he saw the source of the mystery.
A mockingbird was perched there, calling his name.

Trying to be the helpful, friendly guy he always is,
Don inquired, "Is there something I can do for you?
The bird, apparently deciding there had been enough small talk, took wing.

"Was it something I said?" Don asked, but the only reply was a distant call...
"Don! Don!"

Apparently, I'm not important. The mockingbirds never call me by name. :-) Love the barbed wire shot! That's a great perch!

Haha, Connie!
Birds just perch on my lap and wake me up. They never call my name but somehow I know when they call me ;-)

I have a special whistle that I use to call my cats. After a while I heard that whistle being mimicked by one of the neighborhood mocking birds. Mischievous little devils. They also love tomatoes.

Funny-- I think I also heard him calling "Sweet, sweet, sweet, pretty pretty Don!" Of course the girl mockingbirds are also good singers and maybe he has more than one admirer.

Quite a compliment to be so well know in the district. Our parrot used to call our dog by name, the dog actually came and sat when told to do so. The parrot, used to tell him "good, good boy" , we only ever said good boy when hid did what he was told.

How can birds balance so well on just a strand of wire? Great shot! I loved this little story. I also love mockingbirds but we don't have them this high up where we live.

Wonderful post and great photos!
Our resident mocker had me run outside the other day, camera in hand, ready to take a picture of the screeching Red-tailed Hawk he was imitating.
I think they must get a real chuckle out of us humans!
