Two Birds

Roadrunner came for a visit the other day, stopping near the front of the house.
He found a dead hummingbird, and catlike, played with his food.

It tasted like old shoe leather and he spit it out on the rocks.

"Am I really that hungry?"

"Nah! I'm outta here!"

I've never looked at a roadrunner up close the way your photo shows - he's quite beautiful!

Never seen a roadrunner before.
Its tail is as long as the body. Like that quizzical look in the third picture.

What a great bird - I really wanted to see one when I was in Arizona - but I missed out. Maybe next time. I wonder if eating carrion is common for this species?

Cheers - Stewart M - Just back in Melbourne!

Hello!:) I'm a little late in commenting, had a busy weekend. Your photography is first rate, with such detail in the Roadrunners feathers. I would love to see this unique looking bird.)

Sorry about that little hummingbird , but you did get some great shots of that roadrunner. They are always so shy and hard to catch

Great shots and really cute post. I have actually watched one stalk and kill songbirds in the Texas Sage in my yard!
