For me, life is fairly simple: love God, love your neighbor, do your art. As a Christian, my first priority is loving God, and I believe a part of loving Him is being grateful for what He's given us. Here in the Ozarks, we have much to appreciate and enjoy. And so this blog attempts to do a little of this: appreciate God's wonders, and share them with you, my neighbors.

Shadows
Light plays on the distant wooded hillside,
as shadows move slowly,
painting dark stripes on land and lake.
The sun lights fire to an oak, then a dogwood...
as if someone tossed a match on gas-soaked trees.
Then, as quickly as the blaze flares up,
it is extinguished by a passing shadow.
In this beauty, fleeting though it is, we see glimpses of our loving Creator,
the Light of the World, but unlike what we see,
our Maker does not change.
His glory never fades; He is always faithful.
Every good and perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,
who does not change like shifting shadows.

Resurrection Morning
God raised Him from the dead, freeing Him from the agony of death,
because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on Him.
Acts 2:24
...declared with power to be the Son of God
by His resurrection from the dead:
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 1:4
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,
God lives in them and they in God.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

Lifted Hands
In the fresh, cool air of the morning,
Becky and I walk by the lake with Barley and Comet.
Passing under the bridge, we laugh as our feet sink into the wet dark sand.
The dogs swim and race at the water's edge, a picture of joy.
Gourds grow on the shore, and we gather a few,
then watch monarchs working a patch of wildflowers.
Facing an incline, Becky quickens her steps and Barley follows.
At the top, Becky raises her hands, a gesture thanking God for all of it -
dogs, flowers, friends, water, sand and sky -
gracious gifts from the Giver of Life.
